Pinterest, You Know You Love It!

***Disclaimer:  If you read both the Daane Studios wedding blog and this one, the top part is similar content for today’s post.  Please skip the top and jump into the content where the images are contained for great tips on personal/ portrait/ momma use for pinterest.

If you know me even a little bit, you know I am what you would call a little “in love” with Pinterest.  Don’t know what Pinterest is?  Well, take a moment and head over to check it out. I’ve talked a little in the past about how much I love it, but I want to spend a little time talking about how you can USE it!

As Pinterest describes in their “What is Pinterest Page”:

Pinterest is a Virtual Pinboard.

Pinterest lets you organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web. People use pinboards to plan their weddings, decorate their homes, and organize their favorite recipes.

Best of all, you can browse pinboards created by other people. Browsing pinboards is a fun way to discover new things and get inspiration from people who share your interests. To get started, request an invite.

Yes, you actually need an invite.  I’m not 100% sure why, but my guess would be because you would be able to have one other person IMMEDIATELY that you could follow boards of.  A point that is EXTREMELY helpful, since the basis behind pinterest is following other awesomely cool boards to pin from… OR… you can pin directly from that particular page.  More and more websites are adding a “pin me” button on their sites (like the one at the bottom of this post).  You can also add a pin button to your toolbar and it will pull up every image that is pinnable so that it can be pinned.  It’s super easy and so fun!

I have to say, Pinterest has also decreased my stress level, because I no longer tap my fingers when I get stuck in line at the grocery story or any other such line.  I just pull out my handy little phone, keep my blood pressure down a bit and pin away.

So, that is HOW you pin, next to come will be a post about WHY I pin and why YOU might want to pin!  Coming next week- I know you can’t wait!

In the mean time, here are a few snapshots of my boards and if you need an invite, please let me know and I would be happy to help!

This is what what my main pinterest page looks like.

Session Inspiration!  There are some amazing portraits on pinterest- so many ideas and unique thoughts.  I never “copy” a pose or look, but I do honor and admire the art of what other artists do.  Many of the poses aren’t even things that I would actually do with my own clients, but I find them fascinating and those fascinating ideas lead to other ideas and wa-la- my own session idea has been born!  (Works out pretty well, if you ask me!)  This one is entitled, Sesh: New Miracles.  Sesh stands for session- an old way that a friend and I used to label talking over life’s moments.

Another thing I would add here- just a little tip that I might talk about in another week- but I sometimes will pin the same gorgeous portrait.  I don’t mean to and it actually happens less than you might think, but if you notice- I did it here.  The adorable little baby on the top left.  Well, I may or may not delete the duplicate.  The reason being is because these pinterest boards have been created for me to help myself AND MY CLIENTS gain ideas and inspiration.  They weren’t designed to be perfect and if I spent too much time making my boards absolutely perfect by removing duplicates or changing one image from one board to the next, I would detract from what is actually important in my love of pinterest… helping myself and my clients!  (It’s not worth the time spent!)

This is an adorable board that I have called: Food Too Stunning to Eat.  There is ALL KINDS of pretty food on Pinterest.

Packages and Wraps.  I am inspired by beautiful and creative wrapping.  I love earthy organic materials, but I would be lying if I didn’t say that I also love shimmery and lacy things too.

Ooooh, one of my favorite boards… but I try not to go into this one too often.  The “Breakfast Is…” Board.  YUM!

For My Babes.  Well, you all know I’m a Momma….  These are just some things that I would love my little babes to have or things I would like to do with them!

Activities for my Babes  …you may or may not know that I am not really the “playing” type of Momma.  I’m just not good at it and I don’t really like it.  (I hear that not all Mom’s do, so I don’t feel totally bad about this.)  What I DO like to do, however, is do ACTIVITIES with my little darlin’s!  We do lots of things together- from crafts, to baking and beyond… we love to interact together “doing”.  I run out of ideas at times though so I turn to pinterest.  There are a TON of awesome ideas here that I have never thought about!  (I love “following” my teacher friends boards because they have the neatest ideas!

Ahhhhh, this one I had to add just to make sure the Mr. (achem, Mr. Samuel Daane) caught that I had started a “birthday board” to make his life a little easier.  There are only three things there now, but I have a week until the big day and to be honest- I think he’s got a few ideas up his sleeve anyways.  This is a “backup plan” because I know we all like to have a backup plan hanging out there in the wind, just in case, ya know?!
